Ultimate Nourishment's Tips for using your Omega VERT Juicer:
A single gear juicer, such as the Omega VERT Juicer, uses a different juicing technology vs. a centrifugal juicer. The quality and consistency of juice from a single gear juicer is a higher quality, nutrient rich juice over juice produced by a centrifugal juicer. With a centrifugal juicer, the juicer spins at a very high rate of speed, which is its method of juice extraction. Additionally, centrifugal juicers cannot juice leafy greens. Conversely, a single gear juicer, such as the Omega VERT Juicer, can juice leafy greens exceptionally well in addition to all other fruits and vegetables. Single gear juicers do extract more nutrients from fruits and vegetables due to the low revolutions per minute (RPM). Once produce is inserted into the juicer, a single gear slowly chews and presses the produce, thereby extracting more enzymes, vitamins and minerals from the pulp. You will notice immediately how dry the pulp remaining is after the juicing process with single gear juicers. However, all single gear juicers do allow some pulp to flow into the juice. Some single gear juicers actually come packaged with an additional strainer that fits inside of the juice collection cup to strain any errant pulp that will flow in with the juice. Some single gear juicers also come standard with a hand strainer for straining the juice if a pulp free juice is desired. The Omega VERT Juicer does not come with an additional strainer. If a pulp free juice is desired, a handy and convenient tip is to line the juice collection container with a nut milk bag. When the juicing session has ended, just squeeze the nut milk bag when removing it from the juice container.
It is important to cut produce and not to overstuff the Omega VERT Juicer, especially with fibrous greens like kale and wheatgrass. Let the Omega VERT Juicer juice at its own pace & rhythm. Counting to 5-10 seconds between each insertion of new produce into the juicing chamber is a good guideline to ensure juicing at the Omega VERT Juicer's rhythm. If you insert more produce into the juicing chamber before the auger has had adequate time to process the produce already introduced, you may experience undesirable results such as clogging, leaking and/or extra pulp in the juice. One of the signs that you may have overstuffed the juicer is if the yellow gasket that sits below the juice bowl is forced out of its hole. If you juice at the Omega VERT Juicer's rhythm rather than overstuffing, you will find the Omega VERT Juicer is extremely efficient.
When juicing leafy greens, such as kale, parsley, spinach and wheatgrass, it is important to 'ball up' the greens into a small firm mass before inserting the greens into the juicer. Leafy greens will yield the most juice and you will yield the best results if you cut large leafy greens, such as large kale and lettuce leaves, in 1/3rds and then ball up the greens in a small ball. Insert the small ball of greens into the Omega VERT Juicer and then let the juicer process the greens you just inserted for about 10 seconds before you add another small balled up green. It is very important to cut greens with fibrous stems such as kale in 1/3rds before balling them up. By inserting the greens in a firm mass, rather than sprig by sprig or leaf by leaf, it allows the auger to firmly process the greens and you will find you yield more leafy green juice vs. the yield from inserting leaf by leaf.
When juicing celery in the Omega VERT Juicer it is suggested to cut celery in thirds. This is a special tip that we have found in our juicing experience that aids all single auger juicers to become much more efficient when the celery stalk is cut to mitigate the long celery strings. This tip is not written in any owner's manuals of single gear juicers (such as the Champion Juicer, Samson Single Gear Juicer, Omega 8004 & 8006 Juicer, Hurom Slow Juicer and of course the Omega VERT Juicer). But cutting celery in 1/3rds is necessary due to the mechanics of a single gear juicer. Celery strings just love to wrap around the auger. You will find that celery juices perfectly after cutting the stalks in 1/3rds.
Allow the Omega VERT Juicer to run about a minute or so after inserting the last amount of produce and/or greens before you turn off the juicer. This allows the last bit of produce you inserted to be processed into juice.
Ensure hard seeds, such as apple seeds, citrus seeds and cherry pits do not go through the juicer. Soft seeds, such as grape seeds, pomegranate seeds and kiwi seeds are perfectly fine to juice.
